Easy to clean
If you're looking at travel cots or bedside cribs make sure they come with a mattress cover that is machine-washable. That will help you keep it clean from leaky nappies, infant sick and spills. You should also select an item that can be easily disassembled so you can clean and sanitise every nook and cranny.

You'll also want to ensure that the crib is easy to clean and that it fits with your bed. This is especially crucial in the case of a bedside crib that sleeps with your child. They are designed to fit securely to the side of the bed for parents, allowing parents to easily access their baby throughout the night to feed and comfort their baby while still ensuring separate sleeping surfaces.
When selecting a crib for your bed take into consideration whether it has extra features that could be beneficial to you. For instance, some cribs have the ability to rock (useful for fussy sleepers) or tilt, but keep in mind that you should utilize this feature with care as it could be dangerous if your baby is thrown out.
Also, you should ensure that your crib or travel cot has a sturdy and flat mattress that is able to fit snugly into the frame. This will decrease the chance of SIDS by ensuring that your baby's feet and head aren't slipping into gaps or folds in the bedding.
It's also a good idea to buy a new mattress for your travel cot or crib instead of using one handed down from another person or bought second-hand. Mattresses that are used are more likely to losing their shape with time which increases the risk of SIDS. All new cribs should meet BS EN 1130:2019, the most recent standard that introduces more stringent requirements for secure and efficient sleep solutions.
